Manchester City to fight Premier League verdict
City CEO Ferran Soriano says the club will pursue further appeals and courts if needed, even as it keeps spending big in the transfer market.
Manchester City will contest the Premier League's verdict against them through further appeals and, if necessary, the courts, chief executive Ferran Soriano said at a meeting of the European Club Association.
"It will still take quite some time before there is a final decision," Soriano told the gathering.
The case rumbles on even as City continue to spend heavily in the transfer market. Earlier this month the club paid Chelsea a club-record £125m for Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernández, the second time they have broken their own transfer fee this summer.
Separately, a reconciliation hearing involving Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez and Barcelona has been set for 25 November.
Nations League
France beat Belgium 1-0 away in their second Nations League fixture. Michael Olise scored in the 88th minute, converting a pass from Rayan Cherki. Both players had come on as substitutes in the 77th minute.
Italy thrashed Turkey 4-1 on the road. Francesco Esposito scored and set up a goal for Kayode, with Frattesi and Bastoni also on target; Yilmaz replied for Turkey.
If City's appeal ultimately succeeds, it may embolden other clubs contesting Premier League financial charges to hold out for the courts rather than settle.
