Alejandro Balde: Liverpool, Chelsea, Milan eye January move

Balde has fallen out of favor at Barcelona this season, and Liverpool, Chelsea, AC Milan and PSG are all weighing a January move for the left-back.

Alejandro Balde's situation at Barcelona has become a genuine transfer story, with Liverpool, Chelsea and AC Milan all in the picture for a January move and Paris Saint-Germain said to be readying a €40m offer.

The 22-year-old left-back has made just 12 minutes of La Liga football so far this season, a sharp drop from 42 appearances in all competitions last term. According to Diario AS, that lack of game time has left Balde "increasingly distant" from the club and open to a winter exit.

Liverpool's interest stems from a left-back position that has underperformed all season. Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate left on free transfers in June, prompting the signings of Ronald Araujo on a season-long loan and Jeremy Jacquet, plus the return of Kostas Tsimikas. Araujo has since settled in at right-back, and Virgil van Dijk and Jacquet look like Arne Slot's first-choice centre-back pairing, leaving left-back as the problem area. Milos Kerkez remains Iraola's stated preference there but has struggled, and Tsimikas, given a chance in his absence, fared worse still.

Journalist Juan Jesus reported that Liverpool "maintains a very high level of interest" but face stiff competition, adding that Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca rates Balde highly for the London side while Milan are also pushing hard.

Manchester United have not gone away either. A £30m valuation made a summer deal too costly after United's outlay on midfield reinforcements, and Balde himself was reluctant to leave his boyhood club at the time. Sources cited by Football Insider say his stall in form has shifted that calculus, making him more receptive to a move this winter even if Barcelona's asking price has not moved.

With four clubs now circling a player Barcelona had hoped to build around, the outcome may hinge less on Liverpool, Chelsea or Milan matching each other's bids than on whether PSG's reported €40m offer forces Barcelona's hand before the other suitors are ready to act.
