Chris Smalling Nears FC Porto Move
The free-agent English defender, 36, underwent medical examinations in Porto as the club closes in on a one-year deal with an option for a further season.
FC Porto are closing in on a deal for Chris Smalling. The 36-year-old English centre-back, a free agent since leaving Al Fahya of Saudi Arabia in the summer, arrived in the city on 30 September for medical examinations.
According to Record, the club and the player are close to an agreement covering one season with the option of a further year. Smalling is due to sign the contract before the day is out, by all accounts, pending the results of his medicals.
The move would give Sérgio Conceição's successor at the back a defender with Premier League and Serie A experience, arriving with no transfer fee attached. FC Porto have yet to confirm the signing officially.
