About the player
Twenty-four goals in a single Primavera campaign made Andrés Ponce the top scorer of Italy's youth championship in 2016.
His family moved from La Cañada de Urdaneta to Maracaibo when he was small, and it was there that he took up the game. He came through at Deportivo Táchira, spent 2014 with Llaneros, and moved to Genoa in 2015. Sampdoria then sent him out on loan three times: to Lugano in Switzerland, and to Livorno and Feralpisalò in Italy.
Russia held him longest. Anzhi took him in 2018, Akhmat the year after, with a loan spell at Rotor in between. After two seasons at Vejle in Denmark he returned, and his 2023/24 campaign at Akron in Tolyatti brought eight goals and two assists in 38 matches across all competitions.
In the summer of 2024 he joined Atlético Bucaramanga, and that December the club won the Torneo Finalización, the first Colombian league title in its history. Ponce scored twice in nine league appearances that season and also found the net in the Copa Colombia. He left as a free agent in 2025.
On 3 July 2025 he signed for Academia Puerto Cabello. He played 17 matches in the 2025 Clausura, scoring twice, and added five goals in 21 league games in 2026. He also featured in five Copa Sudamericana ties, among them the 2-1 win over Atlético Mineiro in April.
For the national team, he scored in a 2016 friendly against Costa Rica.
