A. Sou

Asane Sow's move to FC Basel in the summer of 2026 came at a record fee for his previous club, Pro Vercelli, which took roughly CHF 600,000. Born in Seriate to Senegalese parents, Sow holds Italian citizenship and came through a string of Italian youth sides — Salus, Lucento and Virtus Mercadante, where he won a league title with the under-17s — before Pro Vercelli's academy took him on in 2023. He helped the club's under-20 side move up from Primavera 3 to Primavera 2 in his first season there.

His senior debut arrived on 15 September 2024, in a heavy defeat away to Caldiero Terme in Serie C. It did not stop his progress: across two seasons he made 48 appearances for Pro Vercelli and scored six goals, with a loan spell at Torino's under-20 team in between, where he added two goals and an assist in nine games before returning to Vercelli.

At Basel, handed the number 18 shirt, Sow needed only a handful of appearances to make an impression. In a 4–2 win over Thun he scored twice and set up two more goals. By August 2026 he had two goals from three appearances for Basel. He has represented Italy at youth level, though he has yet to be capped by Senegal, the country of his family's origin.
