About the player
The move that took Álvaro Zamora to Portugal was not a conventional loan. When Académico de Viseu announced the Costa Rican attacking midfielder in 2025, the deal came with an obligation to buy.
He got there by way of Greece. Aris Thessaloniki signed him in 2023, and across two seasons he made 52 appearances and scored six goals. That was his first move outside Costa Rica.
Before that, the shape of his early years was one of constant movement. He came through at Herediano , where he was registered from 2020 to 2021, but spent part of 2020 on loan at Municipal Grecia and played twice. A spell at Municipal Pérez Zeledón in 2021 brought four matches.
Deportivo Saprissa did. From 2021 to 2023 he played 44 times and scored four goals.
He featured for the club in matches during the 2024/25 season, including the fixture against Benfica , where Académico took a point.
He is right-footed and was born in San José.
