About the player
Six assists in the 2025 Uruguayan league season put Agustín Moreira top of the assist chart in Liga AUF. By that summer he was in Portugal, on loan at Gil Vicente from Progreso.
The route there began at Defensor Sporting, where Moreira came through the academy and stayed until 2020. He joined Progreso in 2021, initially with the youth side, and was moved up to the first team ahead of the 2022 season. With Progreso he was part of the squad that won promotion from the Segunda División to the Primera División, and he went on to make more than 80 appearances for the club.
His first season in Portugal was largely one of substitute appearances: 17 matches across the 2025/26 campaign, six of them from the start, with two goals and one assist. The standout came on 14 March 2026 against Alverca, where he scored twice.
A month later, on 15 April 2026, Gil Vicente exercised the purchase option and signed him to a permanent contract running to 2029.
Moreira has been used as an attacking midfielder and as a winger.
