About the player
The 1. deild karla promotion play-off against Afturelding on 30 September 2023 took Benedikt Warén and Vestri into the top flight.
He came through at Valur Reykjavík, where he played until 2015, then moved to Breiðablik. A loan to Augnablik followed in 2018–2019. His senior record at Breiðablik amounts to four appearances in the Besta deild karla, and the move to Vestri in the second half of 2021 gave him the run of games he had not had. A loan to ÍA Akranes in 2022 brought 21 appearances.
Warén is listed as an attacking midfielder but has been used in central midfield, on the wing and further forward. The 2024 season, Vestri's first back in the Besta deild karla, showed the breadth of that: five goals and eight assists in 26 matches.
Stjarnan signed him ahead of 2025. No fee has been recorded. In his first season there he scored six and set up five in 26 league matches; through 16 matches in 2026 he has five goals and three assists.
His international record is short: one cap for Iceland at under-17 level, in qualification for the 2018 UEFA European Under-17 Championship.
