About the player
Brandon Vázquez Toledo arrived in Austin in January 2025 as the most expensive signing the club had ever made: a four-year deal worth between $6m and $10m, paid to Monterrey. He took the number 9.
Vázquez, born in Chula Vista, California, first appeared for Tijuana in 2016, making his debut in the Copa MX without ever playing a league match for the senior side. He later joined Atlanta United, and although he managed only three goals in 32 MLS appearances there — with a spell at Atlanta United 2 in USL alongside it — he collected an MLS Cup in 2018 and a US Open Cup in 2019.
He then moved to Cincinnati. Across four seasons he played 112 MLS matches and scored 32, and 127 games in all competitions brought 43 goals and 12 assists in the regular seasons. He was named in the MLS Best XI in 2022 and played in that year's All-Star Game, and in 2023 the club won the Supporters' Shield.
Vázquez, who had already come through the U-17 side at the 2015 World Cup, debuted for the United States against Serbia in January 2023 and scored. At the 2023 Gold Cup he scored three times, including the winner in the quarter-final against Canada. By November 2024 he had 11 caps and four goals.
Monterrey followed in January 2024: 40 league matches, 10 goals, 50 appearances and 14 goals in total. His first Austin season produced five goals in MLS and four in the US Open Cup before a torn anterior cruciate ligament in July 2025 ended it.
