About the player
Carlos Strandberg arrived at Qingdao Jonoon after a career that has taken him through six countries: 38 appearances and 18 goals across the U17, U19 and U21 age groups, and a third-place finish with Sweden's U17s at the 2013 World Cup. A move to Borussia Dortmund fell through in 2014, and instead his path ran through BK Häcken, where he made his professional debut, before CSKA Moscow signed him in 2015.
At CSKA he won the Russian Premier League in 2016, sandwiched between loan spells at FC Ural and AIK. A switch to Club Brugge in January 2017 lasted only as long as an immediate loan to Westerlo, and by August that year he had joined Malmö FF on a free transfer, lifting the Allsvenskan title with the club in 2017. Loans to Örebro and Al-Hazem followed before he settled permanently in Saudi Arabia with Al-Hazem in 2020.
From there his career moved to the Gulf and beyond: Al-Sailiya in Qatar, where he won the Qatari Stars Cup in the 2021–22 season, then Hatayspor in Turkey from June 2023. His time in Turkey was not without incident — in May 2025 he was sent off for violent conduct while playing for the club. He joined Qingdao Jonoon in February 2026 as a free agent on a contract running to the end of that year.
