About the player
David Otto's path to senior football ran almost entirely through loan spells. He came up through 1. FC 08 Birkenfeld before joining the Hoffenheim academy, but his time at the club's first team amounted to just three Bundesliga appearances. The real development happened away from Hoffenheim: two years at 1. FC Heidenheim brought 30 appearances, and a subsequent loan at Jahn Regensburg produced 37 games and four goals.
St Pauli made the move permanent in July 2022, paying a fee of €250,000. Across 73 matches there he scored 13 goals, and the form that took him to Viktoria Köln on a free transfer.
Otto's development was tracked closely at international youth level. He played for Germany's U18 side, scoring once in three caps, added a single U19 appearance, and scored three goals in eight caps.
