About the player
Duarte Soares joined Benfica's academy in 2019 from local side O Elvas, in his home town of Elvas. The defender signed his first professional contract with Benfica at the age of 16, in May 2023.
His clearest contribution to date came in a Under-19 fixture against North Macedonia, when Portugal won 4-1: Soares started the match, scored in the 38th minute. Across all of the national youth teams, from under-15 to under-19 level, he has featured 44 times and scored twice.
Domestically, Soares has collected a run of age-group titles with Benfica, winning the Portuguese championship at under-17 level in the 2022/23 season, at under-19 level the following year, and at junior level in 2024/25. He has also appeared in the UEFA Youth League with Benfica's under-19 side.
He now wears the number 78 shirt for Benfica B , the club's reserve team.
