About the player
Exeter City brought him into the academy at the age of eight.
James, a centre-back born in Exeter, signed his first professional contract with the club in March 2023. For Exeter itself, his first-team involvement has been limited to seven league appearances, two in the League Cup and six in the EFL Trophy.
He started out with spells at Saltash United and Weymouth in 2022, then moved to Tiverton Town the following year, where he made 21 appearances in the Southern League Premier Division South and scored twice. Loans at Weston-super-Mare and Dorchester Town followed, the latter bringing him 26 appearances. A stint at Yeovil Town in the 2024/25 season in the National League produced a goal in two matches.
In April 2026, with his development still largely taking place outside Exeter, the club extended his contract.
