Emiliano Gómez

Emiliano Gómez was still coming through at Defensor Sporting when The Guardian placed him on its 2018 Next Generation list of the world's most promising young talents. What followed did not match that early notice: a loan to Sassuolo's youth ranks and then two seasons at Albacete brought him only occasional minutes in Spain's lower divisions, a single goal in four Segunda appearances and one more scattered across close to twenty games in Tercera and Primera RFEF.

He returned to Boston River in 2022, and it was there that his finishing began to show. Eight goals in 26 matches in 2023 were followed by ten in 21 the following year, form that preceded a move to Mexico.

Puebla rolled the dice on a loan deal in August 2024, then exercised the option to sign him permanently in May 2025 for €1.6 million. Gómez finished the Apertura 2025/2026 tournament as the club's top scorer and its leader in combined goals and assists.

He has not been capped by Uruguay's senior side. He did debut for the country's development team, Uruguay A', in a goalless draw with Costa Rica in May 2024, having earlier represented Uruguay at Under-20 level, including at the 2019 World Cup.
