About the player
He arrived at the Royal Antwerp academy in 2020, moved up through the under-19s, and by 2023 was playing for the reserve side, Antwerp B — the Young Reds — in the Challenger Pro League. The senior debut followed in the 2023/24 season, and in February 2024 he signed his first professional contract, valid until 2026. It was later extended.
The route there was a Belgian one, club to club. He started at Eendracht Hekelgem, spent five years at Eendracht Aalst from 2012, then three at KSC Lokeren before Antwerp took him in.
The senior return so far is modest: roughly 12 appearances, one goal and one assist. Set against that are 77 matches in all competitions once youth and reserve football are counted.
Tuypens has not been called up by Belgium at any level, youth or senior. There are no honours or individual awards to his name, and no transfer fee has ever been paid for him.
The step from Antwerp B to the first team is the one still to be made in full.
