About the player
The move that took Anthony Valencia out of Ecuador came with a price tag: Royal Antwerp paid €1.5 million for him in July 2022.
Antwerp won the Belgian Pro League, the Belgian Cup and the Belgian Super Cup in 2022–23, while Valencia was still splitting his time between the first team and the reserves — five appearances for Young Reds Antwerp in the Belgian Division 1 between 2022 and 2024.
The senior return has grown steadily since: more than 67 appearances and over seven goals for the Antwerp first team.
In 2026 he was selected for the Ecuador squad for the FIFA World Cup, and on 30 May 2026 he scored his first international goal, in a friendly against Saudi Arabia.
By August 2026 his future in Antwerp had become an open question. Negotiations with Flamengo were reported to be at an advanced stage, with a fee of around €5 million discussed, though nothing had been signed at the time of reporting.
He came up through Deportivo Azogues and Independiente del Valle; Valencia left it at 19.
