About the player
Erik Schouten came through the AZ Alkmaar academy. As a teenager he was capped for the Netherlands under-19 side at the 2010 European Championship in France, coming on for 45 minutes against France as the Dutch finished seventh.
Schouten joined SC Cambuur in July 2019 and won the Eerste Divisie title with the Leeuwarden club in the 2020/21 season. A second Eerste Divisie championship followed in 2023/24, this time with Willem II, and in December 2024 he was named to the Eredivisie Team of the Month.
Across his career he has made 334 official matches and scored 19 goals.
He plays as a defender, is comfortable with either foot and wears the number 4 shirt at Volendam.
