Franco Escobar

The goal that sits on Franco Escobar's record is the one he scored in the 2018 MLS Cup final. He had arrived from Argentina the previous December and ended the year in the league's playoff Best XI.

He came into Newell's Old Boys academy at 13 and waited seven years for a first-team debut, which arrived on 7 June 2015 against Boca Juniors — a 4-0 defeat. Between 2015 and 2017 he made 34 appearances in the Argentine Primera without scoring.

Across all competitions he played 81 matches and scored five goals, adding the 2019 U.S. Open Cup and the 2019 Campeones Cup to the MLS Cup. A single-game loan to Atlanta United 2 in 2019 was a footnote.

LAFC paid $600,000 in allocation money for him in December 2021 and got a year that ended with two more trophies — the MLS Cup and the Supporters' Shield — from 19 appearances and one goal. He left as a free agent for Houston Dynamo in 2023, on a deal to the end of 2024 with an option for 2025 that the club took up. He made 75 appearances for Houston and scored six.

Peñarol signed him on a free in November 2025. He played 14 matches across the 2026 season without scoring, and the contract was terminated by mutual agreement in June 2026. On 1 July he signed an 18-month deal with Newell's, a third spell at the club where he started, and has four appearances so far.
