About the player
On 15 November 2024, Croatia's goalkeeper was sent off in the second leg of a European Under-21 qualifying play-off against Georgia. Franko Kolić came on in the 63rd minute. Kolić had started the first leg four days earlier, a 3–2 win.
He is from Pula, but his path did not run through Istra 1961. In September 2020 he joined the youth set-up at Osijek, where he stayed until June 2022. He has described himself as a project of the club rather than an academy product raised there from childhood.
The 2022/23 season was his busiest. He became Osijek's first-choice keeper for a spell, playing eight matches in the Croatian top flight and keeping three clean sheets, while also turning out 30 times for Vukovar 1991 in the second tier under second playing rights. A loan to the Bosnian club Posušje followed in 2023/24: 14 matches, four clean sheets. He returned to Osijek on 26 January 2024.
Competition from Nikola Čavlina closed off his route back into the Osijek side, and he left in the summer of 2024. Signed by Mura as a free agent on 31 August 2024, he played a single match — 90 minutes in the Slovenian Cup — before his contract was terminated by mutual consent over the lack of game time.
Kolić joined Istra 1961 on a free transfer on 21 January 2025, signing until 30 June 2027. He has also played for Croatia at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-20 level.
