Hian García

Hian García joined FBC Melgar's youth set-up in 2018, and on 5 August 2023 he signed his first professional contract with the senior side.

Born in Tacna, in Peru's far south, he is listed in databases under several versions of his name — the full one is Gian Carlo del Piero García Bernaola, and he appears variously as Hian García and Gian García.

The route through the club was a straight one. There were no loans, no moves elsewhere: García came up through the academy, spent 2023 with the reserve side in the Torneo de Promoción y Reserva, and stepped into the first-team squad from there. The step up cost Melgar nothing — it was an internal promotion.

His senior debut came on 26 January 2024.

He is a central midfielder by trade and can be used further forward, in the attacking midfield role. He plays off his right foot. At 161cm he is one of the smaller players in the squad.

What he has done with his minutes since the debut is harder to pin down. Detailed goal and assist figures for 2023 and 2024 have not been published in the usual public records — a common enough gap for a young player moving in and out of a first-team squad.
