About the player
Ioan Cătălin Tolea is a product of Petrolul Ploiești's own academy. He came through Kinder Târgoviște and CSȘ Târgoviște before joining Petrolul's youth ranks in 2021, signing his first professional contract that same year. His senior debut arrived during the 2021–22 season, the campaign in which Petrolul won promotion from Liga II. He wore the number 30 shirt for the club across the 2023–24 and 2024–25 seasons, used both in midfield and in defence.
Since breaking through at Petrolul, much of his football has come away from the club. He joined FC Pucioasa on loan for the second half of the 2022–23 season, then moved to CS Blejoi for the whole of the following campaign. A further loan took him to FC Voluntari for the 2025–26 season, another spell away from Ploiești to add first-team minutes to his record before any return to the parent club.
