About the player
José Antonio Paradela's move to Mexico began as a loan and ended up rewriting his career. Over 56 appearances he scored 16 goals and set up 18 more.
Before any of that, Paradela arrived at River Plate in 2021 from Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, a transfer worth 2.8 million US dollars that also meant giving up part of his economic rights. A 2023 loan to Tigre, where he scored once in 14 matches, was a way to find playing time. Even so, he was part of the group that won the Liga Profesional in 2021 and the Trofeo de Campeones the same year, and picked up the Copa de la Liga Profesional in 2023.
His path started far from the big Argentine clubs, in the small town of Quiroga, through the academy of Club Atlético Quiroga and then Rivadavia, where he played 38 games in the fourth tier before Gimnasia signed him in 2018.
Cruz Azul paid roughly 10.5 million US dollars to sign him in July 2025, tying him to a contract through June 2029.
