About the player
Joao Loila was born in Serra, in Brazil's Espírito Santo state, where he began playing before the age of ten, then joined Maricá FC, travelling long distances to reach matches. At eleven, he moved to Rio de Janeiro to join Fluminense's academy.
NYCFC brought Loiola to the United States on loan from Fluminense in May 2026, assigning him to the club's MLS Next Pro affiliate, NYCFC II. He appeared in ten matches and scored once. In August 2026, NYCFC moved to bring him into the first-team picture, signing him to a short-term deal with the senior side.
At 21, Loiola remains a defender with his move up to NYCFC's main roster only weeks old.
