About the player
Johan Gómez scored more than 200 goals coming through the FC Dallas academy. FC Porto brought him into their youth setup, and his senior football began not in Portugal but back in Texas, on loan at North Texas SC. He returned to Porto's reserve side, playing in LigaPro before a free transfer took him to Germany.
At FSV Zwickau, in the 3. Liga, he became a regular fixture, scoring 12 goals in 69 appearances across two seasons. That form carried him to Eintracht Braunschweig in the 2. Bundesliga, where he made 93 appearances and scored four times. He has since moved on to Chicago Fire in MLS on a free transfer, and got his first goal for the club against Charlotte FC.
Gómez holds American nationality despite his Mexican heritage, and has represented the United States at both U20 and U23 level. He was also called up to the US Olympic team for the Paris Games. Primarily an attacking midfielder, he is right-footed, though some have used him further forward.
