About the player
He started out at Benfica, leaving the club's academy in 2015, then crossed the city divide in 2018 to join Sporting CP's youth ranks.
His path to senior football went through Sporting's reserve side. From 2023, Barroso played for Sporting CP B in Portugal's third tier, where he made 27 appearances at right-back.
In the summer of 2025, Chicago Fire signed him from Sporting CP B for a fee of €1.4 million, agreeing a contract that runs to the end of 2028 with an option to extend. Barroso wears the number 2 shirt in Chicago, making 28 appearances for the club and scoring once.
