About the player
Lucas Gomez had waited through the whole Argentinos Juniors youth system, and when it came he started. On 29 May 2024 he was handed a debut in the starting eleven, in a Copa Sudamericana tie against Paraguayan side Nacional. Argentinos won it 2-1.
The senior contract had been signed on 8 February 2024. Before that, everything had happened at the club: Gomez came through the academy and stayed there, with a single appearance for the reserve side, Argentinos Jrs 2, in the 2024 reserve league.
The 2025 season was the one that gave him a run of games. He played 22 matches in the Torneo Betano, scoring once and setting up another goal, and added three appearances in the Copa Argentina. Against that, his continental record stayed at the one Sudamericana match from 2024. He wore the number 8 shirt at Argentinos.
In August 2026 he left on loan to Newell's Old Boys, the move completed on 1 August with a purchase option attached. The financial terms — the loan fee and the price of the option — were not disclosed. FotMob lists the loan as running to 30 June 2027.
At Newell's he took the number 27. The start has been slow: two appearances in the 2026 Liga Profesional season so far. He is right-footed and carries no individual honours, and no call-up to an Argentina youth side has been recorded.
