About the player
Modibo Fofana's first-team debut for Royal Antwerp came in May 2026, three months after he arrived in Belgium and at a point when most of his football had been played with the reserve side, the Young Reds.
The route there ran through Abidjan. Fofana came up in the youth system of Jeunesse Athlétique Club d'Angré, a club connected to the Jean-Marc Guillou Academy — the technical school that has fed Ivorian football for decades. He stayed with JACA until 2026, when Antwerp took him on loan in February for the remainder of the 2025/26 season. The deal carries an option to buy covering four further seasons; neither the loan fee nor the value of that option was made public.
The step up was handled in stages rather than at once. Antwerp put him with the Young Reds first, and the promotion to the senior squad followed within the same season. He wears number 25 and plays in central midfield.
What comes next is largely unwritten. Fofana has no senior honours to his name — no league title, cup or Super Cup.
