About the player
Mátyás Katona is a Hungarian left-footed midfielder who moved through the Vasas and II. Kerületi TVE youth ranks before joining Újpest's academy in 2018. He broke into Újpest's senior team the following year and, after a loan spell at Vác FC, went on to make 52 league appearances for the club, scoring seven goals. He was part of the Újpest squad that beat Fehérvár 1–0 in the 2020–21 Magyar Kupa final.
In February 2023 he signed a three-year contract with Fehérvár. Over two seasons there he made 78 appearances across all competitions and scored 14 goals, and in 2023–24 he was among the club's top scorers with eight league goals, a campaign that also included a hat-trick against Kecskemét. That run of form marked the peak of his time in Székesfehérvár, before he left on a free transfer in July 2025.
He has since joined Nyíregyháza Spartacus FC, where he has made 20 league appearances and scored once. Katona has not been capped by Hungary's senior national side.
