About the player
The move that shaped Mateo Ezequiel García 's career came in August 2019, when Crvena Zvezda paid Las Palmas 2.2 million euros for him. In Belgrade he won the Serbian title in 2019/20 and played eight matches in the UEFA Champions League, scoring once.
He came through at Instituto in Córdoba and made his first-team debut in 2014 in Argentina's second division. Las Palmas signed him on 5 August 2016 for 400,000 euros, but the Spanish years were mostly spent elsewhere: on loan at Osasuna from July 2017, at Alcorcón in the second half of that season, then a full year at Aris Thessaloniki.
Aris brought him back permanently on 2 October 2020 for 1.3 million euros. He stayed three seasons in Greece and appeared four times in the UEFA Conference League.
He played 29 league matches and scored twice in 2023/24, then 19 in Liga MX the following season. He also featured in three editions of the Leagues Cup — three matches and a goal in 2023, three matches and an assist in 2024, two appearances in 2025.
That spell ended in the summer of 2026. His contract with Atlas was terminated and, on 30 July 2026, he joined Newell's Old Boys as a free agent. He also holds Italian citizenship.
