Matias Segarra

Melgar did not pay for Matias Segarra . In July 2025 he arrived on trial, was kept, and joined the club's system — no fee, no negotiation between professional clubs, because there was nothing to negotiate.

What he brought was a season in Spain. Segarra had come through the academy at Universidad San Martín , where he trained from 2021 to 2024, and in 2024 he won a scholarship to Fundación Marcet . He stayed there until the summer of 2025.

The first year in Arequipa moved quickly. He debuted for the reserve side, FBC Melgar B , in Peru's Liga 3 on 15 August 2025. In November he was added to the first-team squad, and on 31 January 2026 he made his Liga 1 debut against Cienciano .

From there he played. By early 2026 Segarra had 23 appearances for the senior side — 22 in the Peruvian championship and one in the Copa Sudamericana — with three league goals and four assists.

The national team followed within months. Segarra made his debut for Peru on 5 June 2026, coming on in the 90th minute of a friendly against Haiti that Peru won 2-1. Three days later, on 8 June, he entered in the 86th minute against Spain ; Peru lost 1-3. Two caps, both from the bench, both late, no goals.
