Max Schmitt

Max Schmitt spent his youth in Munich's white-and-red colours, moving from local side TSV Milbertshofen to the FC Bayern academy at the age of 11 and staying in the club's youth system through 2024. His breakthrough came with Germany, not with Bayern's first team: as part of the U17 squad, he won both the UEFA European Under-17 Championship and the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2023. At the European finals, he saved two penalties in the shootout against France and was named the tournament's best goalkeeper, later also earning a place in the Team of the Tournament. He went on to add caps at U18 and U19 level, taking his total youth international appearances for Germany to 28.

At club level, Schmitt made 25 appearances for Bayern Munich II in the Regionalliga Bayern, without ever making a competitive appearance for the senior side, though he did feature in a friendly against Red Bull Salzburg in January 2025. Bayern's Bundesliga title that season came without him involved on the pitch in the league itself.

A first taste of senior football away from Bayern followed in the 2025/26 season, when he joined SSV Ulm 1846 on loan and made 11 appearances in the 3. Liga.

That loan spell was followed by a permanent switch to SSV Jahn Regensburg, where he signed a contract running through to 2028, closing the chapter of his development at Bayern and opening a new one as a senior professional elsewhere.
