Stuttgart II and Jahn Regensburg played out a 3-3 draw in the seventh round of the Third League at the VirmachenDruk Arena on Saturday. Both sides came into the match on the back of mixed recent form, with Stuttgart II having lost two of their last three before a win against Würzburger Kickers, while Jahn Regensburg had slipped to 18th place with just one victory from seven games.
Regensburg took an early lead through Nicolas Kisilowski in the thirteenth minute, and by then they were building something. Nassim Boujellab doubled the advantage in the twenty-second minute, and Sascha Hingerl added a third after Lucas Hermes had missed a penalty in the thirty-third minute. Stuttgart II finally answered when Oliver Rölke scored in the thirty-sixth minute, before Collin Schramm levelled just before half-time.
And here's the thing about that penalty miss — it changed the momentum completely. Stuttgart II had been chasing the game, but once Hermes sent his spot-kick wide, Regensburg went further ahead. By the time Rölke pulled one back, the hosts were still two goals behind, and the second half would require a shift in approach. Alexander Groiss, Collin Schramm and Tim van der Leij were all substituted at the hour mark, and Stuttgart II came away with another goal through Rölke in the seventy-fifth minute.
Stuttgart II dominated possession at 57 per cent but created nothing in the way of clear-cut chances. They registered four shots on target against six for Regensburg, and both sides had a shot accuracy of 50 per cent. The hosts had just one corner compared to four for the visitors, and while they recorded 51 attacks to Regensburg's 42, the statistics tell a story of chances going begging rather than clinical finishing.
The result leaves Stuttgart II in fourteenth place on seven points from seven games, while Jahn Regensburg remain in eighteenth place on five points. Neither side has won since their opening victories, and both clubs will be looking for a response in their next fixtures. The goal difference remains -3 for Stuttgart II and -4 for Regensburg, and this draw does little to shift either side out of the bottom half.
