About the player
Oscar Schönfelder came through the youth academy at 1. FSV Mainz 05 before leaving on a free transfer to SV Werder Bremen in June 2020. At Bremen he featured for the second team and made ten appearances for the senior squad without scoring. In July 2022 he moved to SSV Jahn Regensburg on loan, but a cruciate ligament tear struck almost immediately.
Regensburg kept faith with him. In July 2023 the club made the move permanent, paying a fee of €300,000 for the left-back. Since then he has established himself as a regular for the 3. Liga side, making 59 appearances and scoring twice. His progress was interrupted again in September 2024, when he suffered a second cruciate ligament injury, this time combined with damage to his meniscus.
Schönfelder's development was also shaped by his time in Germany's youth national teams. He collected 23 caps across the U16, U17, U18 and U19 age groups, scoring twice, though he has yet to be capped at senior international level.
