About the player
Niklas May's route into professional football ran through Leipzig before it brought him back closer to home. He joined RB Leipzig's academy in 2015, spending four years there before moving to FC Viktoria Köln in 2019. He spent his first two seasons with the club's U19 side, and the step up came in 2021, when he was promoted to the senior squad and made his debut in the 3. Liga.
That promotion marked the start of a long run in Köln colours. Over six years, May made 133 appearances for Viktoria Köln. The left-footed full-back's form during that spell also earned him international recognition, with a call-up to the Germany U20 side in November 2022.
In the summer of 2025, May's time in Köln came to an end. He moved to SV Wehen Wiesbaden on a free transfer on 1 July 2025, signing a contract that runs until 30 June 2027. The switch gave him a new home in the 3. Liga, where he continues his career as a left-back.
