About the player
Rommell Ibarra spent his teenage years working through Venezuela's youth national teams, playing at the South American U-17 championship in 2017, then the U-20 championship in 2019, and finally the pre-Olympic U-23 tournament in 2020. That progression carried him into the first team at Deportivo La Guaira, the club that raised him and where he has built the bulk of his career.
La Guaira gave him more than a starting shirt. In the 2020/2021 season the club won the Venezuelan championship, and Ibarra has since been trusted as one of the team's captains. Across his spells there he has made well over 160 league appearances.
In between, he tested himself abroad. In 2021 he joined FC Pyunik in Armenia on loan, making eight league appearances and also turning out for the club's reserve side. He left before the trophy was lifted, but the title still counts on his record: Pyunik were crowned Armenian champions in the 2021/2022 season.
He returned to Deportivo La Guaira in 2022 and has stayed since. A call-up to Venezuela's senior side, the Vinotinto, has not yet come.
