About the player
Some players make their name with a single moment. For Sarah Gorden, the mark came at the very start: in 2016, she became the first DePaul University player selected in an NWSL draft, and Chicago Red Stars took her with that pick.
She spent six seasons in Chicago, from 2016 to 2021, making 94 appearances across league, cup and playoff football without ever finding the net. The workload told its own story in 2021, when the club gave her its Iron Woman award for playing every one of the season's 1,890 minutes.
Angel City signed her on 10 December 2021, and she has been a fixture there since 2022, wearing the number 11 shirt and captaining the side. Two selections to the NWSL Best XI, in 2021 and 2023, and six NWSL Player of the Month awards across the 2019, 2021, 2023 and 2024 seasons. By 2025 she had made somewhere between 95 and 100 appearances for Angel City in all competitions.
The US national team has stayed just out of reach. Gorden was called into training camps in 2019 and 2020 but has not featured in an official match for the senior side.
