About the player
Song Wenjie came up through Qingdao Jonoon's own academy, joining as a boy in 1997 and working through the ranks before making his senior debut for the club in 2010. He stayed on at Qingdao until 2015, when Hebei China Fortune paid a reported 22 million RMB to sign him. The following year had already brought recognition of a different kind: in 2011 he won the Chinese Football Association's Young Player of the Year award.
His career took him through three more clubs in the following decade. After three seasons at Hebei China Fortune, he moved to Shandong Taishan in 2018, where he featured in the 2019 AFC Champions League. He then joined Beijing Guoan in 2021, before returning to Qingdao, by then renamed Qingdao Hainiu, in 2023. Across his league career he has made around 218 appearances and scored 27 goals.
Song represented China at under-23 level in 2007 and 2008 but has not won a senior cap. He plays as a forward and wears the number 19 shirt.
