About the player
Ștefan Bodișteanu started out at Zimbru in Chisinau before moving to Romania's Hagi Academy. He made his senior debut at Viitorul Constanța and stayed on when it was rebranded Farul Constanța.
His development continued away from Farul: a loan at CSA Steaua București brought 23 appearances and five goals, and a subsequent loan at Oțelul Galați yielded 34 games and two goals across the 2023-24 season, in which Oțelul reached the Romanian Cup final.
In the summer of 2024, Bodișteanu moved to FC Botoșani in a swap deal that sent Victor Dican the other way. Neither club paid a transfer fee outright; instead, Farul retained a 10% sell-on interest in Bodișteanu, while Botoșani kept 20% of any future sale of Dican. He signed a contract with Botoșani running to 30 June 2027 and has gone on to make 75 appearances for the club, scoring four goals.
In 2025, FIFA approved a change of sporting nationality that allowed Bodișteanu, born in Chisinau, to represent Moldova at international level. He has since won 13 caps for Moldova, scoring once.
