Taylor Malham

Taylor Wood, formerly known as Taylor Malham, built her reputation as a defender long before she reached the NWSL, and the number attached to her college career says most of it: 33 goals in 107 appearances for the Arkansas Razorbacks, output that belongs to a forward rather than a back-line player. That spell earned her First-team All-SEC honours twice, in 2019 and 2021, and followed a schoolboy — or rather schoolgirl — record at Union High School in Tulsa that included two state championships and the Gatorade Player of the Year award for Oklahoma in 2016–17.

The step into the professional game proved harder. Racing Louisville FC signed her in 2022, and she made five appearances before the club moved her on despite having extended her contract. It was the kind of setback that ends careers quietly, without explanation, the way many do in a league where squads are small and margins are thin.

She found a longer home at Chicago Red Stars, now Chicago Stars FC, from 2023 onward, and has made 49 appearances there without finding the net — a reversal from the goal threat she carried in college, and evidence of a role built more on defensive duty than the attacking instincts that once defined her at Arkansas.

Internationally, she represented the United States at U-17 and U-18 level, scoring once for the U-18s against Switzerland's U-19 side in 2018, a marker of the promise that first drew scouts to Tulsa in the first place.
