About the player
Tomás Cardona came through the youth system at San Lorenzo and made his senior breakthrough with a single Copa Argentina appearance in 2015, though a regular first-team place at the club never materialised. A loan to Defensa y Justicia the following year gave him his first sustained run, with 20 league appearances and a goal in 2016/17.
The move that shaped his career came in 2017, when Godoy Cruz signed him outright. Cardona became a fixture in the club's defence, going on to make 56 league appearances and score three goals over three seasons.
A loan to UD Las Palmas in Spain's Segunda División followed in 2020, restricted to ten matches, before he returned to Argentina and to Defensa y Justicia on a permanent deal in 2021, adding a further 27 league games and one goal there.
In January 2024, Cardona left Argentina for Brazil, joining Fortaleza. He has made 29 league appearances and scored once for the club, wearing the number 6 shirt. Fortaleza sent him out on two further loans in 2025: a brief spell at Talleres between February and June, limited to two matches, and a longer stint at Tigre from July to December, where he played 11 games.
A left-footed centre-back, Cardona has not featured for the Argentina national team.
