Víctor Felipe Méndez Obando

Víctor Méndez started out as a six-year-old at Atlético Merino, an amateur side in his native Valdivia, before the path took him through Huachipato's academy, back to Deportes Valdivia, briefly again to Atlético Merino, and finally into Unión Española's youth ranks. He made his first-team debut there in 2017 and, in 2021, scored his first goal for the club and struck again in the Copa Libertadores.

That form led to a move abroad in July 2022, when CSKA Moscow signed him. Méndez has said his agent's commission on the deal amounted to 10% of a $250,000 fee, even as his market value was put at between $1.5 million and $2.5 million — a discrepancy that drew attention at the time. He won the Russian Cup with CSKA in the 2022–23 season.

In September 2024 he was loaned out to Krylia Sovetov, but his spell there ended abruptly: he failed to report for pre-season training without explanation, prompting former Krylia goalkeeper Eduardo Lobos to publicly criticise his conduct. Méndez left the club and, in January 2025, joined Colo-Colo, with his market value by then estimated at around $3 million. The transfer fee was not disclosed, though reports mention a buy-option clause attached to the deal.

At international level, Méndez has earned ten caps for Chile since debuting on 9 December 2021 against Mexico, a match that finished 2-2, though he has yet to score for the senior team. His clearest team success in national colours came earlier, in 2018, when he won gold with Chile's under-20 side at the South American Games in Cochabamba.
