About the player
Xeber Alkain Mitxelena came through Real Sociedad's youth system, joining after a spell at Antiguoko before working his way through the club's C and B sides between 2016 and 2022. A loan to Arenas Getxo in 2019 gave him a taste of senior football away from the Basque giant's reserve set-up.
His move to Deportivo Alavés in 2022 marked the start of a more settled run in senior football, where he stayed for two seasons before joining SD Eibar in 2024. He spent the best part of two years in Ipurua before leaving Spain altogether.
On 19 February 2026, Alkain signed for Karpaty in Lviv on a free transfer, taking the number 70 shirt — previously worn by Ukrainian defender Ivan Lobay. He settled quickly into the side, appearing in 14 matches and scoring twice in his first season at the club.
