About the player
In the quarter-finals of the 2017 Under-17 World Cup in India, Brazil beat Germany 2-1. Yan Lincon Farias de Sousa scored one of the goals. He had already been a fixture in that age group's side, playing a central role as Brazil won the South American Under-17 Championship without losing a match; the World Cup ended with a third-place finish.
Known also as Yan Maranhão, and simply as Lincon, he came through at Atlético Goianiense, where he spent 2019 to 2021. In 2020 he won the Campeonato Goiano with the club's youth side and was registered with the senior squad the same season. Brazil called on him again at Under-20 level in 2018 and 2019: he scored in a 2-2 friendly against Colombia and made the squad for the 2019 South American Under-20 Championship, though not the one for that year's Under-20 World Cup.
Portugal is where the goals came in volume. Signed by Anadia in the third tier, he scored 14 times in 17 matches and added an assist. Ten of those goals arrived in his first 14 games, before the winter break. Top-flight clubs took notice.
On 2 February 2025, the final day of the winter window, he joined Moreirense of the Primeira Liga as a free agent, on a contract running to 30 June 2029. The fee was not disclosed. He was the club's fourth signing of the window.
The step up has been slower. By January 2026 he had made nine appearances for Moreirense, with one goal and two assists.
