Aabenraa

The only trophy in the cabinet came from across the border. In 2019 Aabenraa Boldklub won the Flensborg Avis Cup, beating the German side TSV Nordmark Satrup 1-0 in the final — a regional tournament, decided by a single goal, in a town that sits close enough to Germany that its results are followed in the German-language press there.

The club had grown out of a spring in 1920, when it was set up as Aabenraa Boldklub Record. The Record was dropped almost at once and never came back.

Its best years ran through the 1970s. Promotion to the 2. division came in 1972, and the team held its place there until the end of the decade; seventh in 1973 remains the highest the club has finished. The forward who took them up, Willy Moshage, was the division's leading scorer that season and turned down offers from abroad, Spanish clubs among them, to stay in Aabenraa. He later coached at Ensted and died in 2021, aged 72.

The ground was a gift. Aabenraa Stadion opened in 1949, presented to the town by its young people, and the club still plays there — 4,500 capacity, of which 553 are seats.

Blue and yellow are the colours, and the phrase that follows the club in print across the frontier is the blue-and-yellow AaBK heart.

The fixture that matters most locally is against FC Haderslev, read in Southern Jutland as the derby of the region. Against SønderjyskE the rivalry is thinner, mostly because the two rarely share a division.

What the club has not managed is a run in the Danish Cup.
