Al-hilal Omdurman Ii

Al-Hilal Stadium sits in Omdurman with room for 35,000, a ground fans call Al-Jawhara Al-Zarqa, the Blue Jewel, and it is where the reserve side of Al-Hilal Club does its work under the same blue and white the first team wears.

Al-Hilal Omdurman II exists to carry players from the youth ranks toward that first team, and it does so without a crest or a website of its own, borrowing everything from the senior club founded in Omdurman on 13 February 1930. It has never won a trophy, which is simply what a reserve team is for.

Its fixture that matters most is a smaller version of the biggest rivalry in Sudanese football. Al-Merreikh II sit across the same divide that has split Omdurman for generations, and when the reserve sides meet it is still called the Omdurman Derby, a name carried down from a fixture the senior clubs have played 176 times since 1951, Al-Merreikh holding the edge with 65 wins to 57.

In the current Sudani Premier League season the young side has made its own case for attention: first place in Group 1 (East) of the group stage, seven wins and three draws from ten matches without a single defeat, 24 points that sent them into the Championship Round.

None of it changes where the work happens. The first team fills Al-Hilal Stadium for the derby; the reserves play their football in the same city, under the same blue, on a ground built to hold far more than the II side usually draws.
