Al-Merreikh II exists as the shadow squad of Al-Merreikh SC, feeding players toward a first team whose derby with Al-Hilal has been played 176 times since 1951.

The reserve side takes the field at Al-Merreikh Stadium on Al-Baladiyya Street in the same red shirts with yellow trim the senior team wears. It competes in the Sudan Premier League's Championship Round, and its current campaign has been a solid one: first place in its group after ten matches, five wins and only one defeat, with 13 goals scored against eight let in.

None of it has happened in Sudan. War forced both Al-Merreikh and Al-Hilal out of the country, and since the 2024–25 season the clubs have been playing their football in the Mauritanian Premier League instead.
