Sudani Premier League 2026/27

The Sudani Premier League serves as the highest level of professional football in Sudan. Governed by the Sudan Football Association, the competition was established in 1965, replacing earlier regional championships and a national Shield contest. It operates as a single round-robin tournament where each of the 24 participating teams plays every other side once. There are no play-offs to decide the champion; the title is awarded based on the final league standings.

Al-Hilal Omdurman holds the record for the most victories, claiming between 31 and 33 titles depending on whether pre-1965 honours are included. Al-Merrikh SC follows with 20 to 24 championships. The 2024–25 season concluded with Al-Hilal Omdurman as the winner, while the current campaign has seen Al-Merrikh lead the table in some reports, though this result remains contested. The competition is known for significant interruptions; political instability, coups, and civil wars have caused numerous seasons to be canceled or abandoned, including the 2022–23 edition. This irregularity means the league does not follow a consistent annual calendar.

Relegation involves the three lowest-placed teams dropping to the Regional Leagues, also known as the League of Local Associations. Teams finishing just above the automatic relegation zone often enter a playoff to avoid dropping down. The top tier is distinct from the Sudan Super Cup, which is formatted as a four-team tournament held overseas rather than a direct match between the league and cup champions. The current squad includes clubs such as Al Khartoum, Al Fallah, Al Hilal Karima, Al-Ahli Atbara, and Al Zamala Umm Ruwaba alongside the traditional powerhouses.
