Al Nasr U23

Al-Maktoum Stadium holds 15,058 people on 11th Street in Oud Metha, and it is here, on the same ground as the senior side, that Al Nasr's under-23 group plays its football. The arrangement says something about the size of the whole operation: no separate academy ground, no lesser venue set aside for the young squad — the club runs its development team through the same gates as the first team it feeds.

That first team dates to 1945, and its record gives the shirt some weight before a young player ever puts it on: three league titles, four President's Cup wins, three Federation Cups, two Super Cups. None of that belongs to the under-23 side itself. In UAE Pro League U23 competition, the age-group version of the old Reserve League, Al Nasr have finished in the bottom half of the table in recent seasons — eleventh in 2024/25, and hovering around ninth to eleventh again in the campaign that followed.

The point of the side is not the table but what leaves it. Jassem Yaqoub came through the academy and spent nine years in the first team before going on to play for the UAE national side. More recently the group has doubled as a testing ground for imports as much as graduates: the Kenyan winger Elly Owande joined in September 2024 and stayed until his contract was cut short in February 2026, an arrangement that only really makes sense at under-23 level, where clubs can afford to experiment.

Fixtures against the youth sides of Al Shabab Al-Ahli, Sharjah, Al Ain and Al Jazira fill the calendar without the edge of a fixed rivalry — that belongs to the senior team's meetings with Al Wasl, the Bur Dubai derby, a contest the under-23s have no equivalent of. Yellow and white, the same badge as the first team, 15,058 seats for a fixture list that rarely fills them.
