Al Jazira U23

The Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium holds 42,056 people. That is the point of it, though: the ground is the senior club's home, and the reserve side plays where the first team plays rather than on a training pitch behind it.

The academy that feeds the side opened on 1 July 2004. The U23 team competes in the Pro League U23, a competition built for exactly this purpose. No titles have come out of it for Al Jazira; the current holders are Al Ain U23.

White at home, black away. So is the fixture that matters most: Al Wahda U23, the age-group version of the Abu Dhabi City Derby, two clubs from the same city with nothing between them geographically and a good deal between them otherwise. The table goes out of the window in those games at any age.

Abu Dhabi is where all of this sits — the academy, the stadium, the rivalry, all within one city, which is unusual for a development side and explains why the crowd at a reserve match is never quite anonymous.
