Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium
The stadium carries two names in its own history. Al Jazira have played here since 1980.
The arena took its turn as one of the main stages of the FIFA Club World Cup — Barcelona beat Atlanta 4-0 here in one of those editions — and it returned to that role in 2022, when Chelsea saw off Palmeiras on penalties after the final finished level.
Not every occasion here has stayed contained. The 2019 Asian Cup semi-final between Qatar and the UAE drew jeers during the Qatari anthem and, as the match wore on, bottles and shoes thrown from the stands, some of them striking players including Qatar captain Hassan Al Haydos — a night that made headlines for reasons that had little to do with the 4-0 scoreline. The ground has also stepped outside football on occasion, staging cricket fixtures in the late 1990s and hosting the Gulf Cup in January 2007.
